Members of a northern New Jersey church and its community are pitching in to help the people of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Orthodox Holy Ascension Church in Clifton is holding a collection drive. Parishioners and volunteers boxed up donations on Wednesday.
Everything will be flown to Poland and brought to the border with Ukraine, where the items will be given out.
Organizers say that the people of Ukraine can use all the help that they can get.
“It’s really needed because right now I don’t know what to imagine. Put yourself underground, put yourself in the basement for one week. There’s a bombing. Your family members are drying. It’s horrible,” says Pastor Rev. Oleksii Holchuck.
The most needed items include hygiene and first aid supplies – specifically anything that helps with wound and burn relief.
They do not need clothes, toys, canned food or liquids. The church is accepting donations every day.
