Mykola Mohuchy, M.D., a beloved radiologist from Redondo Beach, California, peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family on May 26, 2024, at the age of 56.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Mykola, affectionately known as Nick, Mike, or Mikey, grew up in Nutley, New Jersey. He attended Montclair Kimberley Academy where he developed a passion for basketball, lacrosse, water polo, and swimming. He continued his athletic pursuits at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania, excelling in both water polo and swimming.
After a year spent in Spain, playing water polo and teaching English, Mykola returned to the United States to pursue a career in medicine. Upon completing medical school, he began his radiology residency in New York, where he met the love of his life, Dr. Gretchen Lent. Mykola completed his specialty in body radiology, followed by fellowships in neuroradiology and neurointerventional radiology.
Mykola and Gretchen married in 2004 and moved to California in 2007. Blessed with oceanfront living, they spent countless hours at the beach with their four cherished children. Mykola enjoyed playing the piano and composing songs but considered being a father his greatest role. He coached his children’s basketball, soccer, and baseball teams. Even when he was unable to attend games in person, he would excitedly watch videos of their athletic competitions, school plays, and holiday ceremonies, captured by Gretchen on her smartphone.
In early 2021, Mykola was diagnosed with appendix cancer. He bravely endured all the tests and treatments administered by the medical teams of Southern California.
Prior to his passing, Mykola lost his mother-in-law, Karen Lent.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gretchen Lent; his grown children, Kiara, Bogdan, Maxim, and Merrick; his parents, Volodymyr and Zoryana Mohuchy; his sisters, Tamara Mohuchy-Collins and Sophia Mohuchy; his nephews, Nicholas and Alec Collins; his uncle, Jack Cannon; his aunt, Tamara Cannon; and his father-in-law, Keith Lent.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton.
