On the fourth Saturday of November, Ukraine commemorates the victims of Holodomor. Our community never stays away from memorable days. Every year, on the following Sunday, our parish gets united in our prayer to remember the victims of Holodomor. This year wasn’t an exception. On November 28th, the parishioners present at the Liturgy prayed for the souls of all Ukrainians tortured by hunger. At the end of the Liturgy, a panakhyda was held by the monument to the victims of Holodomor. Afterwards, in the church hall adults and the Sunday School students watched a video together showing the witnesses’ stories of those terrible events

It’s a very important task to pass on the memories of the terrible pages of Ukrainian history to the younger generation of Ukrainians in the United States. This significant mission is entrusted to the teachers of our native   School of Ukrainian Studies , whose youngest students study in our church hall every Sunday. Teachers together with kindergarten, preschool, first and second grades students spent a whole day of commemoration together with the Pastor of the church remembering the victims of Holodomor. There was a conversation with children on this topic held in a way understandable for them. We prayed for the souls of starved to death children inside the church, talked about the sin of throwing away food, particularly bread, lit a joint “candle of remembrance”, found about the monument located at the territory of our church. Besides this, each class has made paper appliques on the subject.
